Last night I watched Mamma Mia. They really did a good job in making the broadway musical into a movie. It's just amazing how they were able to patch the Abba songs together in one spectacle. A lot of people, including my parents, have always thought that Abba songs are baduy, but not me! I even have an Abba playlist in my iPod. Hahaha!
More than the storyline, the song numbers are a thrill! The Dreamgirls have finally met their match in the Meryl Streep, Julie Walters and Christine Baranski trio! Moviegoers, brace yourselves for the singing Mr. Pierce Brosnan! You'll just laugh the moment you hear him sing! For me, the best song in the movie was The Winner Takes It All. It was sung with intense emotion by Meryl Streep - hands down to her performance. She's not called "The Great Meryl Streep" for nothing. She just keeps getting better. I simply love the way she gives life to every character she plays (from The Manchurian Candidate to Devil Wears Prada and now Mamma Mia).
Mamma Mia is a fun and refreshing movie that you wouldn't get tired of watching. I'd get a copy of the DVD once it's released.
Just one more thing, why is it that when Hollywood does a musical, where all the characters dance on the beach and seem to have memorized the song all of a sudden, it's fun, it's pleasing to watch and it's a hit! Try doing it here with Filipino actors and actresses, it wouldn't make a single centavo. Hahaha!
