Rest Day Recipes: Grilled Dory Fish and Spicy Tofu with Shiitake Mushrooms

I got to do two dishes for this entry’s Rest Day Recipes.  I’m trying meat-free dishes this time.  First on the menu is Grilled Dory Fish.  It’s a simple fish dish.  I rubbed the fish fillet with mixed spices and grilled it while glazing it with herbed butter.  This dish is a winner!

Next is the Spicy Tofu with Shiitake Mushrooms.  This flavorful Asian dish is perfect for vegetarians.   Onions, bell peppers, tofu, and shiitake mushrooms are stir fried in sesame oil.  To add more flavor, soy sauce and red wine are stirred in, plus the chili flakes to give it that spicy kick.

Coming Home to Hӓagen-Dazs

Today, Mama surprised me with one of my favorite things - belgian chocolate ice cream by Hӓagen-Dazs! That expensive ice cream brand just hit the bull's eye as far as my sense of taste is concerned.  Their take on the most-loved chocolate flavored ice cream tastes so much better than others.  It has that right blend of sweetness and bitterness that never fails to satisfy cravings for chocolate ice cream. 

After dinner, I only had a few spoonfuls.  I became full too soon because of that Max’s chicken and lechon. And besides, I know when to stop ice cream – when it actually starts to taste salty.  Hahahaha!  Weird, but true.

It was a good way to end another stressful day.  :D

P.S.

I have colds and it's really bugging me.  Oh well, I can't call-in sick.  I think they'd have to see blood before they'd let people have the day off and rest.

Rest Day Recipes: Margarita Grilled Shrimp

Got this recipe from AllRecipes.com.  Unlike the first recipe, I decided to go with an appetizer-like recipe this time.  It's a quick, easy-to-do recipe  that is best paired with beer, white wine or cocktail drinks.  

I made some modifications with this recipe from the site.  I substituted paprika with ground red pepper and I used mint leaves instead of cilantro.  I also added juice from a freshly-squeezed orange to balance the flavor.  I'm happy it turned out great!  It's delicious!  I hit the jackpot with this one!

Rest Day Recipes: Lemon Rosemary Chicken with Corn Rice

Since it's my rest day, I planned to do some cooking.  I like searching the internet for recipes and try cooking them.  This time, it's my own recipe and I'm thinking of posting it on my account on AllRecipes.com.  In addition, I'm also entertaining the thought of making it a weblog staple.  At least once a month, I'll try out a recipe and post it here.

This edition's recipe is Lemon Rosemary Chicken with Corn Rice.  I wanted to put the recipe here, but it's still a work in progress.  It's edible, though.  Hehehe!  I still have to control the lemon's kick and improve on the salt department.  One thing's for sure - it smell's really good!

Café Juanita and an Improvised Studio

Finally, I had lunch with my parents yesterday at Café Juanita. They’ve been wanting to bring me there, and yesterday was our lucky day.  Café Juanita is a restaurant serving Filipino, Italian and Spanish cuisine, and is located at Kapitolyo, Pasig City.  I’ve read a review about it in the newspaper, and now I know why people are raving about it.
