I learned about this really cool application, Foodspotting, which is like Foursquare, but in addition to locations, you tag something that everybody enjoys - FOOD! I tried it out last Saturday when I had dinner with the Family at Sancho Churreria Manila recommending their sopa de ajo and beef salpicao.
I used it again yesterday, when the family had late lunch at Pino Resto Bar and I discovered these must-try dishes:
We had this as appetizer. Appetizing indeed! It's balled tofu with cheese inside. Crunchy on the outside, chewy on the inside. The cheese inside practically gives it its flavor. It's not too overpowering; just right to whet your appetite.
This is the first time I heard of this dish, and the first time to taste it too! Seems like unusually cripsy dishes like crispy dinuguan and crispy binagoongan are in these days. I think Kare-Kareng Bagnet is the best of the "unusually crispy" dishes I've tasted! To begin with, Kare-Kare has always been one of my favorite Filipino dishes of all time. Making it crispy and more sinful makes it way way better! If you visit Pino, make sure to have this at your table.
Nothing really new in this dish, except for its superb taste! I've been frequently having fish these past few days and this was a wonderful addition to my fish-eating experience.
I was intrigued by the name of this dessert. A cake with no milk and eggs? It tastes, um, normal.
I can't wait to go back to Pino and enjoy their other dishes! Except for the Kare-Kareng Bagnet, I'll order other items in the menu.
