Time for a Simpler Design

If I can't make drastic changes in my life at this point, I'd just have to alter my blog design. What a way to put my frustration into something constructive! Kidding aside, I feel that I do have to make some changes with how my blog looks. It's time to dress this site with something more classic - something that won't go out of style. Of course, I still have to consider that the design should represent my personality and interests.

With these considerations in mind, I'm having trouble finding the perfect design. The color palette to use is easy. There must be brown somewhere in this blog! It's the overall look with all the graphics and stuff that makes it difficult for me decide. I'm running out of ideas, and I think I need to seek the help of a professional.

Anyway, I hope I'd be able to come up with a new design before July starts.

New Look for Summer!

Here it is, my dear readers - Quingdom's new look for Summer 2010! I hope you like it as much as I enjoyed redesigning my site.

I was getting tired of the old look (I'm sure you were, too), and since summer is fast approaching, here in the Philippines at the very least, I decided to do some revamping of the site. To be in tune with the season, I thought of putting up something refreshing as my banner, hence the presence of water. The photo was taken just before we went out at sea for the island hopping during my trip to Camarines Sur.

If you'd notice, no picture of me this time. Hehehe!

With this redesigning also comes the use of different fonts! I'd also like to share, especially to my fellow TypePad users, Typekit. It's an online facility that allows site developers and bloggers to use licensed fonts and make them viewable to site visitors. It's a paid service, but I'm still under the free trial. So far, so good. I'll let you know what I think when the time that I have to pay for the service comes. Hehehe!

Piña Barong Fabric

A bit of information for my non-Filipino readers, a barong is the traditional formalwear of Filipinos.

I think the last time I got to wear a barong was during my sister's wedding, which was at least five years ago. I'm glad I'll be able to wear one again for my friends' wedding next month. With my body frame, I couldn't buy a barong off-the-rack so I have to have one custom made. I've always wanted to wear an authentic piña barong. And now that I can afford it, I wouldn't let the chance pass.  

I just got the piña cloth to be used for my barong and I cannot stop marveling at the craftsmanship that transpired in creating such work of art. The barong is more than just an article of clothing. It is a manifestation of Filipino creativity and ingenuity that is truly world-class.

I can't wait to see the finished product!

Is It Time for a Haircut?

Please excuse my conceit.  I was supposed to have a haircut a week ago, but I wasn't able to due to my full schedule.  Again, I have to postpone it because I already have work tomorrow.  However, I'm now thinking twice if I should have my hair cut.  It may be a mess at this point, but I'm thinking I could grow it a little longer, and the scruffy effect might just look good on me. In my dreams!

What do you think?  And if you have any suggestions on hairstyles that would look good on me, I'd really appreciate them.

Starting to Like Espadrilles

The plan was to go to the mall after our morning check-up.  My brother was buying shoes he needed for work and I did not plan on buying anything (honest!).

First casualty, white polo shirt with wide gray stripes.  I think I'm done with plain colored shirts, so I picked it out at Folded and Hung.

While waiting for my brother try on shoes, I looked around and saw that Happy Feet has something for guys.  This rack of pseudo-espadrilles (they have rubber soles instead of the fiber ones that traditional espadrilles have) caught my eye, but I've always dismissed the thought that I could pull it off with this footwear.  My mother gave me the nudge to try it on and to my surprise, it did look good on me.  Please forgive my conceit.  Hehehe!

Shopping for Black Shoes

Because my old pair of black shoes wore out again after an attempt to have it repaired the first time, I finally decided to get a new pair.  I've always been a fan of the shoe store that goes by the name of Traffic.  Their designs are classy and the shoes are durable.  Not the typical men's shoes.  Though relatively expensive, I don't mind shelling out extra since they don't give me a hard time when it comes to size.  Luckily, my timing was right.  They were on sale.  I was financially prepared to buy only a pair, but since the shoes were 50% off, I bought two - both labeled Frank.  By the way, if you happen to know where Frank originated, I'd appreciate it if you give me a buzz.

I badly needed black shoes for work, I bought an oxford and a plain one.

I'm eyeing another pair, but it wasn't on sale.  I'll wait until they go on sale with that one.

Monique Lhuillier Gowns at the 2008 Emmy Awards

Alongside the anticipation for the winners of the prestigious awards for television excellence, many are on the lookout for the gowns that the celebrities would parade in.  This year, Filipina designer Monique Lhuillier has once again showcased her brilliance in designing as she dressed three (as far as I know) celebrities who attended the event – Debra Messing, Teri Hatcher and Padma Lakshmi.

I woke up at 2:30 pm, again!  It looks like waking up too late is becoming a vacation leave habit.  Anyway, Mama and I went to SM Cubao (Yes, Cubao!) to do some shopping.  We've got some gift cheques to burn!  Woohoo!  Since the Cubao branch of the Philippines' national department store is under renovation, we weren't able to look around that much.  But after buying stocks of toiletries, I was able to spot some neckties!  If I didn't tell you, you won't know they're from SM Department Store!  The ties look imported from one of the world's fashion capitals.  I didn't think twice in buying them.  I got three and I'm looking forward to buying more.

Shopping Big Time

Just want to share my shopping experience today.  I've never shopped this much!  Earlier today, I went to Greenhills with my parents.  The original plan was to go with them to get some pearls.  I never thought of going home with two pairs of shorts, a jacket and four tops - two polo shirts and two polos.  Honestly, I only paid for the gray long sleeved polo that was even on sale!  Hehehe!  Thanks to my father for shouldering the rest.  I saw a bag at Memo and I'm planning to get it tomorrow.  Hahahaha!  Talk about trigger happy.
